End Summer Boredom FOR GOOD!

Now that the end of summer is near, you might have heard your kids say – a few too many times – “I’m bored!”, “I miss my friends!”, “What are we doing today?!” Eliminate boredom and keep everyone sane (especially you!) by creating an interactive daily planner. This genius idea is a way to keep kids active and learning throughout the day. It also lets them know what is coming up that day, so you can manage their expectations and get them excited for the day’s activities.

Get together with the kids to create a big set of possible activities and change them up daily, such as playing games in the park, going to the library, or even baking something up in the kitchen. Pick activities that encourage the kids to learn to keep their minds fresh before that first day of school.

The calendar also doubles as a great way to keep the little ones on track during the school year. Posting times for homework, after school activities and dinner help to keep kids organized and on track for the day.

How it works:

  • Have a plan. Map out the family’s daily schedule.
  • Decide on what materials you want to use. Paper, fabric, or felt. You choose.
  • Get working. Cut and arrange your activity strips onto a board. Construct pictures for non-readers.
  • Use a movable indicator, such as clothespin, so kids know what activity is being executed.

Voila! Your masterpiece is created. Kids will be begging every morning to change the schedule!
